The Ultimate Success Obedience Program

An 11 sessions series, once a week for 11 weeks.

You and your dog will learn exactly how we train on & off leash skills & manners:

Communication – (Good, No/Ah-ah, Free) Be able to communicate with your dog when it does something you like or don’t like for maximum clarity, the ability to navigate your dog into the behaviors you’d like them to do and knowing when to not use language to change behaviors as well.

Coming when called – Be able to enjoy your dog off-leash, do many more things with your dog and keep them safe by knowing they will come back when called.

Sit and Stay – If you ever need your dog to stay put for a moment as you do something, sit is it!

Down and Stay – For times you need your dog to stay while you’re out whether it’s having coffee, a meal or sitting at a park bench, down is the command to have your dog stay put for an extended period of time.

Place and Stay – Send your dog to it’s own place where it can comfortably hang out with you while you get things done or just want to relax. Place is a targeted area to send your dog to.  It can be a dog cot, bed, mat, park bench, etc.. Children are assigned a desk when they go to school. Many people use place for many different reasons such as having a place to be and relax instead of begging for food, being incessant with certain guests, staying still for a period of time, and more.

Loose leash walking with Auto-sit – Never get yanked around or caught off guard by your dog while they spot a distraction when out on a walk again. Loose leash walking is extremely important for you and your dog’s relationship and can make every walk a pleasant bonding experience. Avoid physical injury to yourself, your dog and others and experience and nice enjoyable walk with your dog by teaching it to loose leash walk.

Go to your crate – The crate is a very important management tool until your dog gets older. Be able to send your pup to it’s crate without any resistance at all.

Door Manners – If your dog is the type of dog that loves to bolt through doors.  Door manners will be what is needed to keep your dog aware of waiting for your permission to be able to go out.  Keep your dog safe with door manners.

Manners – For situations where your dog might destroy a valuable, jump on guests, countersurf, dig, playfully mouth, excessively bark, etc. Manners will keep your dog and others safe and in the clear!

Outlets for Energy – Most dogs were bred to do some form of work and we’ve put them in a household setting where most of the time we expect them to settle down and behave.  Rules and structure are very important and outlets for energy for your dog are just as important.  Many behavior “problems” manifest themselves from being bored and not having a consistent outlet. Explore possible options to be able to give your dog an outlet to create fulfillment and mental balance for your dog. It’s about creating a win/win for everyone!

Relaxation – Every dog needs also needs an off switch! Many dogs have never been taught how to relax. Let us show you how to build that relaxation “muscle” in your dog so you can have that off switch on demand.

When the time comes we will be working around many different distractions to create reliable obedience and manners anywhere you go.

If you’re using training that is only based off of only positive or only negative methods your not giving your dog all the information it needs. Learn a complete holistic approach to training so you and your dog can experience maximum fulfillment. This builds the best relationship possible, ensuring lots of fun and the ability to stay safe!

CGC Testing

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN

Asheville Dog Academy offers CGC Testing

Responsible Owners, Well-Mannered Dogs. The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen program is recognized as the gold standard for dog behavior. In CGC, dogs who pass the 10 step CGC test can earn a certificate and/or the official AKC CGC title. Dogs with the CGC title have the suffix, “CGC” after their names.

Started in 1989, the CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

The CGC Program teaches good manners to dogs and responsible dog ownership to their owners. The 10-step Canine Good Citizen test is a non-competitive test for all dogs, including purebreds and mixed breeds. The CGC award is a prerequisite for many therapy dog groups. Some homeowner’s insurance companies are encouraging CGC testing, and an increasing number of apartments and condos require that resident dogs pass the CGC test. The CGC Program also includes the AKC CGC℠ Responsible Dog Owner Pledge.

THE CGC TEST INCLUDES:

Accepting a friendly strangerThe dog will allow a friendly stranger to approach it and speak to the handler in a natural, everyday situation.

Sitting Politely for PettingThe dog will allow a friendly stranger to pet it while it is out with its handler.

Appearance and GroomingThe dog will permit someone to check it’s ears and front feet, as a groomer or veterinarian would do.

Out for a Walk (walking on a loose lead)Following the evaluator’s instructions, the dog will walk on a loose lead (with the handler/owner).

Walking Through a CrowdThis test demonstrates that the dog can move about politely in pedestrian traffic and is under control in public places. The dog and handler walk around and pass close to several people (at least three).

Sit and Down on Command and Staying in PlaceThe dog must do sit AND down on command, then the owner chooses the position for leaving the dog in the stay.

Coming When CalledThis test demonstrates that the dog will come when called by the handler (from 10 feet on a leash).

Reaction to Another DogThis test demonstrates that the dog can behave politely around other dogs. Two handlers and their dogs approach each other from a distance of about 20 feet, stop, shake hands and exchange pleasantries.

Reaction to DistractionThe evaluator will select and present two distractions such as dropping a chair, etc.

Supervised SeparationThis test demonstrates that a dog can be left with a trusted person, if necessary, and will maintain training and good manners. Evaluators are encouraged to say something like, “Would you like me to watch your dog?” and then take hold of the dog’s leash. The owner will go out of sight for three minutes. The dog does not have to stay in position but should not continually bark, whine, or pace unnecessarily, or show anything stronger than mild agitation or nervousness. Evaluators may talk to the dog but should not engage in excessive talking, petting, or management attempts (e.g, “there, there, it’s alright”).

Zoom Consultations

We also offer Zoom consultations where you can speak with a professional trainer one-on-one about specific issues you’re experiencing with your dog. During the call we can assess the issues you’re experiencing and coach you on plenty of strategies to work and implement with dog.

Train With A "Training Without Conflict" Certified Professional

Why work with a
Training Without Conflict™
Certified Professional?

Ivan Balabanov’s Training Without Conflict™ training system is superior to all other dog training methodologies because it is a truly scientific approach with emphasis on Cooperation and Play.

Having raised over a thousand puppies as a globally respected Belgian Malinois breeder, trained tens of thousands of dogs, and having won 15 National Championships and 2 World Championships as a dog sport competitor gives Ivan unparalleled credentials and an extremely unique perspective on dogs and dog training.

At present, there are many different schools of thought regarding dog training.  Trainers have divided themselves into camps that dictate how they train, and thanks to social media, everyone is a dog training expert selling you their “new” training system. The internet is flooded with free training that is leading dog trainers and dog owners down paths that not only do not solve problems, but usually lead to more. By putting “Ideology and Tribe” before what works and what doesn’t work.  These approaches are incomplete and inferior ways of training dogs.

It is a revolutionary new approach that does not rely on the widely accepted treat training, where the dog perceives its trainer as a food dispenser.  It is a radically different concept, that encourages Dog and Trainer to interact as fellow creatures. Such interaction places a strong emphasis on cooperation, willingness, and compliance with much higher level of motivation. The result is obvious, even to the untrained eye – confident and eager dogs that perform commands because they want to and not because they must.

Our certified Training Without Conflict™ trainers respect and harness your dog’s intelligence.  They have been trained to appreciate and understand that dogs are born genetically pre-programmed by nature with certain behaviors (desirable or not), which are impossible to eliminate. TWC trainers have learned how develop training plans and lessons to Guide and Control the dog’s instincts without unnecessary stress and conflict, while maintaining the dog’s confidence and true desire to interact with the trainer and its environment.

Training Without Conflict™ trainers are held to a high standard, both in how they train and in how they operate their business. Each has agreed to the TWC Code of Ethics, which outlines best practices as an independent dog training professional.

Training Without Conflict – The Cornerstone Collection Videos

“Chris and Violet are simply the best. They are caring and professional, the results they achieved with our Bichon Frise were unbelievable. My wife and I travel a great deal and we needed our dog to be able to adjust to airports, restaurants, crowds and unfamiliar surroundings. They were successful in achieving all of our goals.

Our dog is so well behaved that I know I’m the envy of any dog owner who sees us walking or at outside restaurants. She is perfectly well behaved and I attribute this completely to the work and training that Chris did with our dog. We checked into a few different training facilities before deciding on Asheville Dog Academy, but I am convinced we made the best decision and I whole heartedly recommend Chris and Violet and Asheville Dog Academy to any one looking to have their dog humanely trained for the behaviors that are desirable for interaction with family and public.” – Don Clayton Asheville NC
